Green Acres Kennel Shop Launches Online Puppy Headstart Classes

By Don Hanson | May 05, 2020

Bangor — Green Acres Kennel Shop’s award-winning dog training team is offering an online version of its Puppy Headstart class. The class provides students with the knowledge they need to ensure that their puppy grows up to become a well-mannered and well-adjusted dog while in the comfort of their home.

Much of a puppy’s future behavior will be determined by what they experience during the critical socialization and habituation period between 8 and 16 weeks of age. That developmental period does not go on hold for a pandemic.

Green Acres owner Don Hanson, a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant, stated: “It can be much more difficult for a puppy to learn what they need to know after 14 weeks of age. At the same time, it is equally important for the people with the puppy to learn how they can most effectively teach their puppy the basics even when leaving home is difficult due to a pandemic. By placing our class online, we can teach people what they need to know in the comfort of their home and still be available to answer questions even though we cannot meet face to face at this time.”

Green Acres’ online Puppy Headstart class addresses the following topics; socialization and habituation, housetraining & crates, play biting & bite inhibition, chewing, jumping up on people, handling for grooming and veterinary exams, playing with other dogs, alone training, the role of nutrition in physical and mental health, how your puppy learns and the best way to train him, the power of reward-based training and the dangers of punishment, what to do when your puppy misbehaves, the importance of management, and more.
