Meet Nita, a very sweet young girl is looking for a human with a very special heart .... Why? Because Nita has a very special heart. ❤️

Nita has a condition called Subaortic Stenosis (SAS). In a nutshell, it's a congenital heart defect where a valve is narrowed and her heart has to push harder to work blood through. This then leads to thickening of the valve and stress on the heart to the point where the heart may begin to fail and the dog develops congestive heart failure, which can be fatal. Dogs with SAS usually live 2-4 years.

Nita is on medication to help keep her heart rate down. Exercise restrictions are suggested to further reduce the strain on her heart. If you are interested in giving this very special lady a very special home, please give the Animal Welfare Society a call (207) 985-3244 to chat with our animal care and veterinary staff. They will answer your questions and tell you more about SAS and Nita's current regimen of care. Thank you!
